The Roper male-line Y-chromosome project has yielded, with high probability, the defining 37-marker set for the combined southern (descended from the early Ropers in Virginia) and northern (descended from the early Ropers in Massachusetts) Ropers and English (border area of Suffolk and Norfolk); therefore, the set for their common Roper ancestor in England. I call this the English/Majority USA Roper (EMUR) family. Any Roper male who wants to check if he is in the EMUR only needs to have the first twelve markers measured; if they are the same as given in the first two rows above or differ by only one digit in one location, he is in the family. The middle two rows contain 13 markers, which usually are not necessary to be measured to find out whether one is in the family. The last two rows give 12 more markers that generally mutate faster than the previous 25 markers. Measuring the middle 13 and last 12 markers makes result more decisive as to which sub-family the testee belongs.
