I adopt a classification scheme for the different Franklin families as determined by the Y-chromosome tests. In order of time at which the Y markers were determined, the classification is:
Family Class | Abbreviation | Participants | Comments |
FranklinY1 | FY1 | WWF, ELF, SAF, WWF2, CSL, JJL | WWF is a half-great uncle of ELF. WWF2 is a 4th cousin of ELF. The relationships for SAF & CSL with each other and with the others are unknown. |
FranklinY2 | FY2 | IBF, CMF, JEF, BF, GWF, TCF, LRF, BLF, JHF, HDF, RMF, JMF, DRF, JHF2, RNF, BAH, ECF
FranklinY3 | FY3 | JBF, WGF, TDF, CCO | Charles Clay Oliver, Jr. is more distantly related to the other 3 than any of them are to each other. |
Franklin Y4 | FY4 | JCF, CJF | 1st cousins 1 generation removed. |
Franklin Y5 | FY5 | CKF, PDF, WHF
Franklin Y6 | FY6 | ARF, BAF,GCF
Franklin Y7 | FY7 | ASAF, JHF3 |
Only families with at least 25 markers and only families with two or more testees are classified.
View the Y-chromosome markers for the Franklin project.
The following graphs show the deviations of the markers within the different Franklin families from the mode (most frequent value) for that family. Only the ones that deviate from the mode are shown. |

FY4 Family: only two memeber; need 3 or more for making the graph. |
