DNAPrint: BioGeographical Ancestry (BGA) Test Results for Ray Brooks

The BGA test determines the probable fractions of one's ancestry that are Indo-European (European, Middle Eastern and South Asian), Native American (South and North American), sub-Saharan African (all African countries but Algeria, Chad, Egypt, Morocco, Sudan and Tunisia) and East Asian (Japanese, Chinese, Korean and South Pacific).

Ray Brooks' results:
Ancestry Estimate
Sub-Saharan African 57%
Indo-European 25%
East-Asian 0%
Native-American 18%

The first contour (black line) around your BGA result delimits the space outside of which the points are 2 times less likely, and the second contour (blue line) delimits the space outside of which the estimates are 5 times less likely. The third contour (yellow line) delimits the space outside of which the estimates are 10 times less likely than your result.
Ray Brooks' comments about this result: "I am identified as Native American and I am Tri-racial. My Mother was mulatto and her mother was Caucasian. I have traced three of her lines back to England. one which has Mayflower ancestry. I did have an mtDNA test done, which showed my maternal ancestor as belonging to the 7 Daughters of Eve, TARA clan. My mother father's was African American descent, and there may or may not be some Indian ancestry on his side. I had a DNA test done through an African DNA testing project here. They were only looking for West African ancestry through the paternals lines, and none showed up in my results, although my 1st cousin showed a PN1 West African result on his father's line. By the way, My cousin and I have the same 3rd great-grandfather on my maternal-father's side through intermarriage, but still no major African group showed up on my paternal testing. I definately knew there was African ancestry, so I wasn't surprised that I had a 57% African on the AncestryDNA testing. I did think the the Indo-European percentage would be higher, since it was from my grandmother, and I know that there must have been some other European bloodlines in the family, since many of my ancestors are listed as mulatto. I also thought that the Native American would be at least 1/4, since I am told as well as taken for Full Blood and I have read that you have to be at least 1/4 to have the physical phenotype of a certain ethinicity, maybe it is a combination of all three that gives me my look."
A Genotype is the actual building block at one location on your DNA. For instance if, at a certain location, you inherited an 'A' from your mother and a 'C' from your father, your genotype would be 'AC' for that location. (The DNAPrint results do not distinguish paternal-maternal order; i.e., it could be AC or CA.) There are approximately 3,000,000,000 building blocks (base pairs) in the human genome, however only 0.1% of these building blocks are variable from person to person. The BGA test measures the specific genotype at 70 highly informative deep ancestral locations. Genotypes:

There is some slight variation from run to run on how well the analysis works. Because of this sometimes a marker is judged failed during the quality control step. Note that locations #972 & #1146 are marked FL=failed. Omitted and FL markers are not used in the percentage calculation.
